Isolation-identification of Campylobacter Spp. from aborter sheep fetuses and resistance to antibiotics

Abstract (EN)
In this study, isolation and identification of Campylobacter spp. from aborted sheep fetuses ensured in Diyarbakır and province were investigated. Conventional methods were used for isolation of Campylobacter spp. isolated strains were identified according to their properties as biochemical reproduction, at different temperature and tolerance to different chemical substances. Campylobacter spp. were isolated from 10 % of 100 aborted sheep fetuses from 25 different origins. Out of 10 Campylobacter strains isolated, 7 were identified as C. fetus subsp. fetus, 3 as C. jejuni. Identified Campylobacter strains were tested in Antibiotic Sensitivity tests. All (100 %) of Campylobacter strains were found as resistance to penicillin but sensitive to enrofloxacin. We found that 9 Campylobacter strains middle grade sensitive to streptomycin, 8 strains sensitive to gentamycin & neomycin and tetracycline as middle grade sensitive, 7 strains were found as sensitive to erythromycin.
