Determination of mixture homogeneity of mixed feeds produced in the province of Kırşehir

In this study, the homogeneities of mix feeds produced in feed mills operating in Kırşehir were determined. Total five feed mills were used to collect 8 samples each weighing 500 g. Chloride method has been used to determine the homogeneity of the mixture. Coefficient of variation (CV) was evaluated by calculating. If CV is less than 10%, homogeneity of the mixture has been accepted as sufficient. The salt content of calf feeds was between 1.487-1.563%, in the 4th and the 1st feed mill respectively. With regard to homogeneity, both feed mill were the nearly same CV values 8.93 and 8:49, respectively. The salt contents of beef cattle feeds were 1,793 % in the 3rd feed mill, 2,187% in the 1st feed mill, 2263 % in the 2nd feed mill and 2.343% in the 4th feed mill. Before analysis grind was applied to samples, the salt contents of feed mills were 3.20, 2.68, 2.28 and 1.72 % in the same order. The determined homogeneities (CV values) were 7.40, 6.07, 5.87 and 10.03, respectively. When grinding was performed, homogeneities were (CV values) 8.66, 10.34, 6.08 and 16.11, respectively. The salt contents of dairy feeds were 1.48 % in the 1st feed mill, 2.11% in the 4th feed mill and 1.56% in the 5th feed mill. than has been shown to have less salt content. When grinding was performed, the salt contents of dairy feeds were 1.48%, 2.20% and 1.64%, respectively. Homogeneities were determined as 8.93, 11:16, 16.99, respectively. When grinding their samples before analysis, they were 9.36, 16.66 and 14.63, respectively. To conclude, all feeds produced in Kırşehir contained salt more than standards. However, the difference between homogeneities of feed mills can be explained by not only different technological traits of feed mills but also errors in operating them. Also, the necessity of grinding before chloride analysis, should be eliminated or further considered.
