Kültürler arasında: Monica Sone'nin Nisei Daughter adlı otobiyografisinde Japon Amerikan deneyimi

Autobiography as a literary genre has gained importance, especially in the second half of the 20th century even though people have written their own life stories since ancient times. The works written in the field of autobiography in Japanese American literature emerged after the end of World War II since writing and sharing of bad memories and experiences is quite effective in terms of coping with trauma. This research is a study of the autobiographical novel Nisei Daughter written by the second generation of Japanese-American citizen (that is Nisei) Monica Sone, who voiced cultural dilemma of the Nisei and her journey to become an American citizen. This study aims to determine the factors that cause the author's cultural dilemma and analyze how she finally amalgamates Japanese culture into American culture by focusing on the experiences of the author as a Japanese American. The results of the study indicate that the Nisei, who were in quest for self, experienced cultural dilemma caused by both internal factors originating from the strength of Japanese culture at home and their legal positions in America, so that they are in two cultures -America and Japan-, and external factors, namely racial discrimination of white society, which rejects them as part of white American mainstream even though the Nisei are legal American citizens.
