The impact of leadership and coaching approach on managers: A research in hotel managements

Nowadays, the rapid change and innovation process that is experienced due to the globalization and technological changes lead the institutions to the searches that make them superior in the competitive environment. This trend is increasing the significance of the leadership and coaching approach day by day.In this study, the impact of leadership and coaching approaches on managers is discussed. Within this framework, it is examined if the managers? dimensions of leadership and coaching show any difference with regard to age, gender, the schools that they graduated, total management experiences and job titles.The research consists of four sections. While the concept of leadership and approaches about leadership are examined in the first section and coaching approach is studied in the second section, the third section includes the concepts of tourism and accomodation. In the last section of the study where the data that is obtained from managers through questionnaire, the objectives and findings of the study take place. This study is applied to mid-level and senior managers of five star hotels in Istanbul. In line with the findings of the study, a relation between the age and coaching approach of the managers is ascertained. However, no relation is ascertained between gender and coaching approaches. Furthermore, the relation between coaching and leadership approaches can vary with regards to the age of the hotel managers. A positive interaction is ascertained between the other demographic characteristics and coaching & leadership approaches of the hotel managers. In the last section of the study, an applicable coaching model is formed for the hotel managements.Key words: Leadership, Coaching, Tourism Management, Hotel Management
