Abstract (EN)

ABSTRACT REVISION OF THE GENUS LILIUML. (LILIACEAE) IN TURKEY ikinci, Nursel Ph.D. Thesis, Department of Biology Supervisor: Prof. Dr. Adil Güner June 2005, 135 pages The genus Lilium is revised for Turkey with the help of morphological characters, nuclear ribosomal DNA ITS sequence data and RAPD data. Approximately 700 herbarium specimens from 13 major herbaria and from private collections have been examined. Phylogenetic analysis of the section Liriotypus was performed by using ITS sequences of 27 Lilium taxa and as outgroup 3 species from Liliaceae; Cardiocrirmm giganteum, Notholirion thomsonianum, and Nomocharis saluenensis. Phylogenetic analysis was accomplished by using RAPD data of 170 individuals and 93 bands. Seven species are recognized, one of them have two varieties. L. artvinense Miscz. is reduced to synonymy of L. ponticum K.Koch. L. ponticum K.Koch is increased to species status which was formerly assigned as subspecies of L. carniolicum Bernh. ex W.DJ.Koch in Flora of Turkey. A determination key to the species is given. On the basis of detailed morphological studies all taxa are fully described with notes on distribution, habitat and their red list categories. All names are given with complete synonymy and typification as far as possible. Keywords: Liliaceae, Lilium, Turkey, molecular phylogenetics, nrDNA ITS, RAPD analysis. m
