Evaluatıon of the use of smart materıals at the ınterctıon of materıals scıence and archıtecture dıscıplıne

The concept of material, which is one of the most important elements that constitute design in the discipline of architecture; It develops and changes under the influence of technological developments. These developments and changes in materials science have led to the evolution of the traditional material concept to another place; It leads to the emergence of the concept of high performance and innovative materials. These materials, called innovative materials; In the construction industry, they appear as smart materials under the influence of technological developments. Among the reasons why smart materials are widely preferred are their ability to perceive the potentials in their surroundings, their positive impact on the quality of life, their durability and safety, and their low maintenance and repair costs. In this context, in the intersection of architecture; The developments in the field of materials are explained and the types of smart materials are explained and their usage areas in which structures are explained. As a result of the research conducted for the thesis; The effects of these materials during the design process of the building and throughout its lifetime were mentioned, and it was concluded that they have very important features such as contributing to the improvement of the structure, considering the comfort of the user and keeping energy consumption under control.
