Abstract (EN)

Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of nutritional education given to obese individuals with limited calorie medical diet (diet) on weight loss. Materials and Methods: The study included 35 patients in the intervention group and 35 controls in the age group of 18-45 years, at least secondary school graduates, without menopause, without any chronic or endocrinological disease, with a body mass index (BMI) ≥30. This is an intervention study conducted on 70 obese women. The data of the study was obtained from questionnaire form, food consumption frequency form and follow-up form. Initially, weight, height, waist circumference and hip circumference measurements of women in both groups were taken and weight loss diets were given. The women in the control group were informed that they would be interviewed after six months. Women in the intervention group were called for a control every 15 days and their measurements were repeated and nutritional education was provided in each interview. Number, percentage, mean, standard deviation, minimum and maximum values were used as descriptors. Chi-square test and Wilcoxon signed rank test were used for analytical statistics. Results: There was no statistically significant difference between the first and last measurements of weight (p = 0.112), body mass index (p = 0.144), hip circumference (p = 0.137) and waist-hip ratio (p = 0.168) of the women in the control group. There was a statistically significant difference between first and last measurements of waist circumference (p = 0.045). Weight (p = 0.0003), body mass index (p = 0.0006), waist circumference (p = 0.0002), hip circumference (p = 0.0008) and waist-hip ratio (p <0.0001) statistically significant differences were found between the first and last measurements. Conclusion: It was observed that medical nutrition treatment in obesity treatment supported by nutrition education had a positive effect on weight loss.
