Abstract (EN)

Mardin; It is a city where people from different languages, religions and races dominate due to its location, and over the years these differences have intertwined and formed a cultural, social and architectural texture. As the differences in the city constitute a rare example of its kind, it hosts a large number of visitors. Over the years, the buildings have become idle due to reasons such as the inability of historical buildings to respond to new living conditions and needs, the change in the profile of people living in the city, and the fact that the owners of the buildings have started to live in other cities. With the increase in the number of domestic and foreign visitors visiting the city due to tourism, space needs for visitors have arisen. The desire of the visitors to stay in the historical texture and the fact that the idle/future houses will turn into structures with financial income; It has brought about functional changes in existing buildings that will respond to this density. In the city where the shops where souvenirs are sold are increasing; cafe, restaurant etc. functional changes are observed. The most common functional change in buildings whose original situation is residential in the city is the transformation from residential to accommodation structure. The uncontrolled increase in the transformation into tourism-oriented accommodation (hotel, hostel, etc.) structures in the historical city center, which has been created by the articulation of different cultures for many years, pushes the positive or negative results created at the scale of structure and texture to research. In this context, first of all, a literature search was conducted on the concepts related to the subject. To work; Among the registered residences in the protected area, those that have been transformed into accommodation are included. A map was prepared by marking the locations of the buildings in the city center; A building card was created for each building. Problems encountered at different scales after the change in function were examined. For this purpose, on-site observations and photographs were used to examine the buildings, and face-to-face interviews were conducted with descriptive analysis. In the interviews with two different groups, architects and building owners/operators, the problems encountered and emerging in the urban texture and structure were determined. These uncontrolled and rapidly increasing transformations; It was concluded that it should be carried out in a controlled manner through institutions.
