The teacher mentoring process appli̇ed to teacher candi̇tates appointed to primary and secondary schools

The main purpose of this study is to determine the positive and negative opinions of the candidate and advisor teachers about the applied mentoring process by evaluating the mentoring process applied to the candidate teachers in the Ministry of National Education institutions. In the study, a scanning model was used as the basic method. And, in the analysis of the obtained data, quantitative and qualitative analysis methods were used. In addition, this study was conducted in an exploratory case study design. The sample of the research consists of 823 teachers including 669 candidate teachers appointed to Gaziantep in March, 2016 and started to work in September, 2016 in Gaziantep; and 154 Mentors appointed to guide the candidate teachers. In the selection of the sample, stratified sampling method which is one of the random sampling methods is used. During the data collection phase, the "analytical questionnaire of the mentoring process" and the "interview form" which was structured and prepared by the researcher were used. In the quantitative analysis of the questionnaires, descriptive and meaningful statistical methods were applied using SPSS 22.0 package program. In the qualitative analysis of the interview form data, descriptive analysis and content analysis methods have been applied. As a result of the research; it has been found that the present practice contributes to professional development, new knowledge and skills, and provides transfer of experience. Mentors and mentees have similar opinions on this. However, the mentors are undecided about the practice's contribution to personal development, motivation, and interest.
