Stakeholder views on the workplace-based skill training of vocational high school students

This research aims to examine the views of stakeholders within the framework of the competencies determined by the researcher in skills training in enterprises, which is an important step in the transition to business life by supporting the vocational education process with on-the-job training. For this purpose, the phenomenological design, one of the qualitative research methods, was preferred in the study. The study group of the research consists of 30 students, 30 coordinator teachers and 15 workplace supervisors who participated in skills training in enterprises in 10 vocational high schools in Elazığ in the 2024-2025 academic year. Convenience sampling was used to determine the study group. The data were collected from the stakeholders using a semi-structured interview form, and then the data were coded, descriptively analyzed, and interpreted. As a result of the research, it was seen that students' communication, problem solving, teamwork, time management, use of technology, taking responsibility, coping with stress and compliance with job security skills are developed and supported at different levels in school and business environments. Stakeholders emphasized that the personal and professional guidance and physical environments offered in the school and enterprise environment have a significant impact on supporting the individual differences of students and improving the process. In addition, it has been determined that the theoretical and practical trainings received at school have little relevance in the sector and are insufficient in some areas. As a result, it is recommended to strengthen the school-industry link, update and increase the hours of practical trainings, and develop a student-centered education and training curriculum based on digital skills.
