Situation, needs and solution suggestions related to vocational and technical education program according to the opinions of vocational teachers

This research aims to reveal ways to meet the existing situations and needs of vocational and technical education programs by taking into account the changes from past to present. The research is based on a phenomenology study, and the research data was collected using the interview form prepared by the researcher. The interview was conducted face to face with 38 vocational teachers, the data obtained was analyzed and categories and subcategories were determined. Frequencies and percentages were determined in the context of categories and subcategories, and teachers' opinions were included. In this research, suggestions and opinions of participants were taken about the current situation and needs of vocational and technical education programs in the context of program elements and stakeholders. According to these data, it has been seen that the program elements are generally suitable for the student, but are inadequate in some areas to meet the needs of the sector, and teachers need in-service programs according to technological developments. Content density needs to be regulated and made suitable for sector needs and student level. In the context of educational situations, it was deemed necessary to increase the video content in the textbooks, organize the course content and hours, and complete the deficiencies in workshops and equipment according to the course content. In the context of stakeholders, it has been concluded that interest and talent screenings are carried out for students, field introductions are made to students and parents starting from the secondary school period, and teachers participate in regular in-service training programs to contribute to their adaptation to the development of their fields. In addition, it was concluded that sector-school cooperation will contribute to the student's adaptation to the profession and employment. In the context of higher education, it has been concluded that regulations should be made to ensure the continuation of vocational and technical education graduates in higher education.
