Abstract (EN)
Aim: The aim of the study is to investigate the current state of thermal comfort conditions of workers in the metal industry, to investigate the incidents, accidents and occupational diseases that may be caused by these negative conditions, and to determine the precautions that need to be taken. Material and Method: In this study, thermal comfort conditions in the working environment, especially in the iron and steel industry where metal melting processes are carried out, were investigated by reviewing the literature. Results: The human body responds to environmental variables in a dynamic interaction that can lead to death if the response is inappropriate or energy levels are beyond survivable limits and determines the stress on the body while using its resources to maintain an optimum state. In the case of the thermal environment, this will determine whether the person is too hot, too cold, or in thermal comfort. Air temperature, radiant temperature, humidity, and air movement are the four primary environmental variables that influence human response to thermal environments. Conclusion: Exposure to high temperatures has adverse effects on the health and productivity of workers in industries exposed to high temperatures. It should be proactive in creating in-house preventive policies and interventions by designing workplaces with cooler rest areas to reduce workplace heat exposure and welfare mechanisms for workers. ITS and physiological strain indices are considered the most prominent applicable indices in the assessment of heat stress in work places with high temperatures.
