Ill SUMMARY Thesis of High Master's Degree Banditry Incidences in the Ottoman State according to the book of records of the Imperial Assembly of State ( Mühimme Defterleri ) Ayşegül HÜSEYNİKLİO?LU The University of Fırat The Institute of Social Science The Department of History In the Ottoman State, after the second part of the 16 th century, a remarkable economic, social and political disintegratten threatened the safety of the country to an important extent. That the state couldn't come up with durable and fundamental solutions for the problems arisen, and the changing world conditions led to banditry incidences. These banditry incidences occurred as highway robbery, robbery, theft, murder, rape, attack on properly and people, job abuse, the tyranny of officials, student revolts, and the illegal activities of feudal groups. These incidences, which initiated by people from all the stages of the government, also stemmed from both the economic contitions, as and people's greed to earn more money and wish to achieve fame. People of convention, people of evil, feudal groups and civilians initiated these incidence sometimes co - operatively and sometimes individually. Banditry incidences took place mostly in the Inner Anatolia Province, and Rumelia Province. In the other provinces some minor incidences happened.IV Precautions taken against these banditry incidences were mostly far from preventins them. The spread of these incidences caused the state authority to weaken and to vanish at a great eutent in the countryside. In this research, the banditry incidences in the is year period ( 1594 - 1607) in The Ottoman State, by whom they were committed, and the precautions taken against them are dealt with according to one of the most important archive document series, the book of records of the Imperial Assembly of State.
