Abstract (EN)
The drift of Ottoman Empire to a new civilization kept the westernization period alive. Westernization had its actual breaking point with rescript of Gülhane declared in 1839.The desire of knowing the west and having the western elements in their life brought a systematic change period. This change period happening at the social plane made its presence felt in all areas forming the society.Our work intends to detect the elements of this change seen in westernization period which reflected to novels of National Literature period.Our work is composed of two parts.In the first part there are information about the historical process and reflections of westernization and opinion movements.In the second part which is the main part of the work we examine 43 novels printed in National Literature Period between the years of 1908-1923 in terms of westernization. We try to concretize the change process in the behavioural and ideational dimension of individual which forms the basis of society from the points of sciences such as sociology and philosophy. We reveal the change caused by westernization in cultural structure and locality. We try to detect the wrong westernization change and the reflection of the social breakup to novels caused by this change process.In the second part of our work by approaching foreigners in novels and the positions of these foreigners in the social life , we detect the functions of these foreigners in the wrong westernization period.After the conclusion part which tells what kind of a process westernization had in the National Literature Period , we give place to a bibliography which contributes to our work.
