Özet (EN)

In this study, in which the relationship between the cognitive code and the elevation factor in architecture is investigated, the process and working systems of the related concepts in architectural design are examined. By examining the research on cognitive coding in architecture, various design factors in architectural design and cognitive coding have been reached. The concept of elevation has come to the fore in the dimension of build-building as one of these factors, therefore it has been researched in detail, and a different perspective drawing attention to the elevation factor in design to new studies and designers has been presented. In the introduction, the relationship between the concepts of cognitive code and elevation and architectural design and the application process of the study are explained. Cognitive coding in architecture and the elevation factor affecting the design in cognitive coding have been examined by associating it with human perception. Therefore, the elevation factor in architecture has been associated with human nature. In this direction, in the second part of the study, the related literature was reviewed, and resource summaries were created. In the third part of the study, material and method parts are given. In the material part, the conceptual process of cognitive coding is explained. In the concept of elevation, which is one of the design factors in cognitive coding in architecture, it has been seen that height and slope draw attention and stand out by differentiating according to various values. In the method part of the study, a study area associated with the concept of elevation in cognitive coding in architecture was selected, and observations about building areas were developed. Diyarbakir Inner Castle region, which has different periods and cultures in the same volume with its geography spread over wide plains, has emerged as an important parameter within the scope of the study because it is a historical area located at high elevations for centuries, depending on landforms. For this VII reason, İç Kale region, located in Diyarbakır, Suriçi, whose boundaries are determined by the concept of elevation, was chosen as the research area of the study. Findings from the study data are presented in the fourth section. The building groups in the Citadel area, which is determined as the study area in this section; Since they are located at variable elevations, have traces of different periods, and have various functions, they have been examined in three regions according to their varying elevation, period and function characteristics. For these three regions and their structures, firstly, an observation-based elevation analysis was conducted within the scope of cognitive coding. Figures and charts containing relevant visual data were created. In addition, this part of the study was developed with the questionnaire application, and the analyzes regarding the obtained data, performed in the SPSS program, were given. In the conclusion and suggestions section of the study, the existence of the height factor in the formation of cognitive perception and code in architecture has been redefined with the qualitative and quantitative findings obtained from the data. The study was concluded with inferences regarding the related definitions. Within the framework of the findings of the study, suggestions were made that draw attention to the field of architectural practice and cognitive processes in architectural design. The results and suggestions of the study will contribute to the designs in the build-building dimension by presenting the effects of the cognitively coded elevation factor to the architects. Keywords: Cognitive Code, Perception, Elevation, Height, Diyarbakir Inner Castle.
