The moderating role of cryptocurrency investment on the effect of shortcuts and biases in the investor's decision

Decision-making behavior has been studied with different approaches. Studies examining this topic have often focused on how to make the best decision. These studies investigated the decision-making process and how the processes are affected in different situations in which the decision-maker is involved while examining the decision-making behavior. In studies investigating the effects of psychological factors on decision-making, it has been observed how the decision-maker is affected by cognitive characteristics. In this study, the effect of cognitive factors affecting the decision-making process on the decision-maker's behavior was examined. Also, the moderating role of cryptocurrency investment on these effects has been studied. A face-to-face survey was conducted with 589 investors across Turkey. The obtained data were analyzed with structural equation modeling, chi-square, and t-test. In the analysis results, it was observed that while anchoring and representativeness biases were effective in investor decisions, availability and herd effect biases were not effective in investor decisions. Cryptocurrency investment has a moderating effect on anchoring and representativeness biases. Also, no relationship was found between the demographic characteristics of the investors and their decision-making behavior.
