Abstract (EN)

Involving literary arts, poems are the most important works that are studied theoretically in the lectures of Arabic language and Rhetoric. Yet, these works of verse in which literary arts are used in abundance and which are of the figure of speech, are more difficult to understand than other texts. As a result of this, many scholars write important annotations to clarify the poems in terms of lexicon, i'râb and rhetoric. The annotations written on classical poems, which made important contributions to the understanding of the Quran, have gained an important place in the history of Islamic culture with their rich content of intellectual and transmitted sciences. In this article, information will be given about not only the life and works of Mohammad ibn ʻAbd al-Munʻim al-Jawjarî (d. 889/1484), a Shafiʽi jurist and linguist who lived in the 9th century (according to hegira calendar) but also his annotation called Khayr Al-Qira fî Sharh Umm Al-Qura which is written to annotate Mohammad ibn Saʻid al-Būsîrî's (d. 695/1296 [?]) Qasîdah Al-Hamziyah In the study, firstly, information about the life of the author, his education and teaching activities will be given. Subsequently, his other works will be introduced, and then the attribution of this work named Khayr Al-Qira fî Sharh Umm Al-Qura to the author, the date that it was written, the purpose of its writing, the style and content of it, and its place among the precedents will be discussed. Key Words: Arabic language, Annotation, Rhetoric, Ode, Hamziyah, Jawjarî.
