Abstract (EN)

Shamanic rites and rituals have formed the basis of various branches of art since ancient times. Theatre, music and dance have developed and grown by being fed from repetitive steps, sounds, ecstatic attitudes and images in shamanic rituals. When we come to Anatolia, Shamanism; combined with the customs, traditions and customs of the society and kneaded with symbols, it comes to the present day. Shamanic signs that change and transform in Anatolian culture and become traditional are also reflected on the theater stage. This study is about the appearance of Shaman rituals in contemporary theater works and the way these elements are used. In this thesis, which investigates Shamanism and its origins in Turkish theater, Murathan Mungan's three theater plays, which he combined under the name "Mesopotamia Trilogy", are discussed. Shaman elements in the plays "Mahmut ile Yezida", "Condolence" and "Deer Curses" and the methods of symbolic expression in theater will be examined together with Murathan Mungan's life and works. For the stage application, a collage work will be made with the female characters in these three plays by Murathan Mungan. How the author uses the rituals united with our culture through female characters, how these elements are reflected on the stage with a local point of view will be examined in the context of the symbols used.
