Abstract (EN)

The first commentary on Hâfiz's Diwan was written by Mustafa Sürûrî in the 16th century. The commentary called the Sharh of Hafiz's Diwan, which was composed of two volumes, is remarkable in that it is the first commentary in this respect and that it contains considerable information on the pomes written by Hafiz. This study brings the text of the sharh of Hafiz's Diwan into light, and it also analyses the text in detail. The study contains four parts in addition to the introduction. The introduction part is concerned with making sense of the text and on the concept of commentary, and it informs readers of the commentaries on Hafiz's Diwan. Part One focuses on the life, art and works of Sürûrî. Part Two focuses on the process of writing the commentary, its method and the copies; and it describes the points considered in producing the text. Part Three transcribes the first and second volumes. Part Four prepares the glossary for the work on the basis of the meanings Sürûrî attaches to the words. This final part also gives the index for the verses from the Holy Qur'an, hadiths (Prophet Mohammed's sayings) and other phrases in Arabic included in the work.
