Investigation of Mustafa Orakçi's levent and its crew book set in terms of UNESCO values

Although the development and widespread use of technology has provided great advances in many areas, it is also seen that this has caused individuals to become isolated, social ties to weaken, and traditional values to disappear. Scientists who are aware of the weakening of social ties are conducting studies on values education in order to prevent this. Different norms have been revealed in the studies conducted by scientists. Universal values include the twelve values established by UNESCO, an international institution (happiness, honesty, modesty, cooperation, freedom, love, peace, respect, responsibility, tolerance, unity, simplicity). These are values that children should acquire and maintain throughout their lives. The aim of this study is to examine the book series "Levent and his Crew" by Mustafa Orakçı, a narrative text aimed at children, in terms of UNESCO values. The study used the document analysis method, one of the qualitative research methods. Five books from the book series "Levent and his crew", which are the data source of the study, were examined in terms of the values "happiness, honesty, modesty, cooperation, freedom, love, peace, respect, responsibility, simplicity, tolerance and unity". The data obtained were analyzed using content analysis and it was concluded that a total of 128 values were conveyed in the five different story books. It was found that the first three most frequently processed values in the story books were respect (f=22), responsibility (f=17) and love (f=16). In the Levent ve Tayfası book set that was examined, the author generally conveyed UNESCO values using positive examples, but another result that was reached was that he used only one negative example for honesty, cooperation and unity values. This situation shows that the author preferred to convey the values through positive examples in order to emphasize their importance. A research can be conducted on the values specified in the new Education model regarding Levent ve Tayfası. Key Words: Levent and His Crew, Mustafa Orakçı, UNESCO values, Values education.
