Attitudes of music teacher candidates towards multicultural education

The geopolitical position of our country, as it is known, has been an important factor in building close relations with many countries from the past to the present. Both the developments in the Middle East and the migrants from the Turkish Republics of Central Asia have nurtured multiculturalism and expanded cultural diversity in our country. The role of multicultural education is important for building a healthy social society and ensuring societal cohesion in this cultural diversity. It is the teachers who teach in multicultural classrooms. Many studies have been reached on the attitudes of teachers towards multicultural education. But there has been no extensive research aimed at identifying the attitudes of music teacher candidates towards multicultural education. It is important to identify the attitudes of music teacher applicants towards multiculturalism and multicultural education, which are expected to give students behaviors regarding cultural differences and culture of coexistence. This research aims to examine the attitudes of music teacher candidates towards multicultural education. Furthermore, this research is important to determine the shortcomings of music teacher candidates in different cultures and to contribute to future arrangements and improvements to teacher training programs in the field of music education. This research is limited to prospective teachers in the 2020-2021 school year who are studying in the music teaching department of the education faculty and volunteering to study in the research sample of the universities in Turkey.
