Comparison of the facial artery and it’s branches ın normal and anencephalic

SUMMARYComparison of The Facial Artery and It?s branches ın Normal and AnencephalicFetusesŞule BIYIKThis study was performed between September 2003 and May 2005 in KaradenizTechnical University, Faculty of Medicine, Anatomy Division. In this study, 41 facialarteries of 16 normal and 10 anencephalic fetus who are between 20.70 and 35.10 weeksold were examined in The Anatomy Division Laboratory.In normal and anencephalic fetus, facial artery which is main artery that suppliesthe structures in face, it?s submental artery in neck, inferior labial artery, superior labialartery, lateral nasal branch and angular artery in face were examined. Distances and anglesof facial artery and it?s branches were measured according to landmarks which aredetermined in face. The found measuring results were statistically compared betweennormal and anencephalic fetus. Differences of facial artery and it?s branches betweennormal and anencephalic fetus were examined.In result, distances and angles of facial artery and it?s branches between normal andanencephalic fetus show differences according to landmarks. In spite of this, the foundvalues does not show differences according to the sex. Right and left facial arteries of fetusare don?t statistically show differences.In the event that anatomical structure of face is damaged, the fact that settlement,course, ramifying and variations of facial artery are very known will be come to surgeon?said during the surgery operation which will be applied to this region in order to preventpossible damages for facial artery or it?s branches and obtain good results in terms ofaesthetics.
