Evaluation of students' perception, cause-effect relationship, skills and exam success about the "Seasons and climate unit" conceptions

Abstract (EN)

In this study; it was investigated how the relationships among students' perception, perception skills, cause-effect relationship, cause-effect relationship skills and exam success regarding the concepts of "Seasons and Climate Unit" differ, and whether these variables make a significant difference according to gender. The study was carried out with 282 8th grade students (136 girls and 146 boys) studying at five randomly selected public secondary schools in Kocaeli Province, Kartepe District, during the fall semester of the 2021-2022 academic year. The study was conducted with relational survey research, which is one of the quantitative research methods. Data in the study was collected through the tests "Seasons and Climate Unit" Perception (P), Perception Skill (PS), Cause-Effect Relationship (CER), Cause-Effect Relationship Skill (CER-S) and Exam Success (ES), and they were analyzed with the suitable statistical methods. According to the data obtained from the findings of the research, it was observed that the perception and perception skill levels of the students towards the "Seasons and Climate Unit" concepts were high, and the cause-effect relationship, cause-effect relationship skills and exam success averages about these concepts were moderate. It has been observed that there are significant relationships between the students' perception, perception skills, cause-effect relationship, cause-effect relationship skills and exam success scores about the concepts of "Seasons and Climate Unit". In addition, it was observed that there is no statistically significant difference, according to gender, among the students' average scores of perception, perception skills, cause-effect relationship and cause-effect relationship skills about the "Seasons and Climate Unit" concepts.
