The effect of activities related to internal social adaptation on social behaviors: The case of Korgun district of Çankırı province

In this study, it was aimed to examine the effects of social skills training on the social competence levels and negative social behaviors of primary, first, third, fourth and fifth grade children. Pretest-posttest quasi-experimental research model was used in the study. The study group of the research consists of 105 students, 63 girls and 42 boys, studying at Şehit Veysel Çirişlioğlu Primary School in Çankırı Province Korgun District. Before starting the research, the "Social Competence Scale" and the "Negative Social Behaviors" scale were applied as a pre-test to the students in the study group of the research. After the pre-test, social adaptation activities developed by the researcher were applied to the students in the study group for 2 weeks. As a result of the applied activities, "Social Competence Scale" and "Negative Social Behaviors" scale were applied to the study group as a post-test. As a result of the research, it was determined that social skills activities applied to primary school students increased their social competences in a statistically significant way, but the improvement effect on negative social behaviors remained weak. It has been determined that the effect of the applied social skills activities in the sub-dimension of interpersonal relations, which is one of the sub-dimensions of social competence, in the sub-dimension of self-control and in the sub-dimension of academic skills, is in the direction of a statistically significant improvement. It was determined that the applied social skills activities did not cause any change in the aggressive-irritable behaviors sub-dimension and the anti-social-aggressive behaviors sub-dimension, which are the sub-dimensions of negative social behaviors, and had a low effect on the destructive-demanding behaviors sub-dimension, but it was not statistically significant.
