Examining the qualifications of music teacher candidates on individual instrument teaching in accordance with the opinions of teachersmsc thesis

The aim of this research is to evaluate and determine the situation in line with the opinions/suggestions of the instructors who teach in the music education departments about the necessity of the lessons/courses for instrument teaching in the institutions that train music teachers, what the courses can be added to the program and the competencies of the teacher candidates. This research is a "survey – descriptive" model. In the research, the descriptive model was used to determine the opinions of the instrument educators working in the Music Education Department about the competencies of the music teacher candidates. Purposeful sampling method was used in the research, 40 lecturers working in 11 Music Education Departments of Turkey participated. In the research, data were obtained with the interview form created with the semi-structured interview technique. The interview results were analyzed by content analysis and the findings were interpreted by creating common themes. In the questions in which the rating scale was used, the percentage and frequency values of the findings were taken. Instructors who provide instrument education in the Music Education Department, music education Department graduates' instrument teaching proficiency is not at the desired level and it should be increased, music teacher candidates should take lessons/courses to learn instrument teaching methods and techniques, and at the same time gain experience in this subject. They stated that they should graduate, that it is not right to remove instrument teaching courses from the music teaching undergraduate program, and that it would be negative for music teacher candidates to provide instrument training without knowledge of instrument teaching.
