The personal constructs of the teachers and students towards themselves and each other

In this study, personal constructs used by students and teachers regarding their own roles and each other's roles were examined. The study group consisted of 9 students attending the 8th grade in a public school affiliated to the Ministry of National Education and 8 teachers who give a class to these students. Participants of the same class were determined by identifying the three highest, lowest and intermediate scores in the academic achievement class ranking obtained from the e-school system which pertains to the Ministry of National Education. The teachers in the study group were chosen randomly from the teachers who give a course to these 9 students. Personal information about the participants was obtained through the "Personal Information Form" prepared by the researcher. The data were analyzed by using Idiogrid 2.4 software. This study was considered in the quantitative case analysis model in terms of idiographic characteristics (high internal validity). Within the scope of the research, students and teachers' (e) Euclidean distance coefficients of elements related to being a student / teacher; (ii) the relationship between personal constructs and elements used for being a student / teacher; (iii) the coefficients for the distance of students / teachers from the ideal and non-ideal student / teacher image; and (iv) the relationship between the personal constructs and elements used for the students / teachers. According to the findings of the research, the students that the teachers placed the closest to the ideal student element were the students with the highest level of success, while the students with the lowest level of success were the students that the teachers placed the furthest to the ideal student element. In addition, students with high academic success are mostly represented by positive personal constructs by teachers; students with low academic success were represented by negative personal constructs. It was observed that students mostly placed their teachers close to the ideal teacher image. It was found that the personal constructs used by the students vary depending on their success levels, the personal constructs of ideal teacher used by the students with the high level of success were related to the "having expertise knowledge". On the other hand, it was found that the students with the low level of success used personal constructs that mostly covering personal characteristics (affective components). Most of the teachers were very positive about their own fictions as a teacher; six of them were high, one was moderate, and one of them had low self-esteem. Students with different levels of achievement showed similarity with their self-esteem; two of the three students in each group (low, medium and high achievement) were found to have high self-esteem and one student had a moderate level of self-esteem. This situation reveals that there is no significant relationship between self-esteem and academic achievement scores of students.
