Teachers' opinions regarding the unethical behaviors of teachers in their relationship with students

Ethics is a philosophy discipline that investigates the values, rules and norms that form the basis of our individual and social relations in terms of moral concepts such as good-bad or right-wrong.About the problems that teachers encounter in their relations with their students "What should we do?" It is very important that ethical values are adopted and applied in schools because it is the strongest concept that can answer the question. The aim of this research is to determine the unethical behaviors of teachers in their relations with students and reveal the opinions of teachers about the causes of these behaviors and what should be done to prevent them.The research was carried out with case study and holistic multiple case sub-pattern, which is one of the qualitative research methods. In this context, interviews were conducted with 14 (fourteen) teachers who worked in Anatolian High Schools in Düzce, Merkez, Kaynaşlı and Gölyaka districts in the 2022-2023 academic year and completed at least ten years in their profession. A semi-structured form was prepared and three open-ended questions and sub-questions related to these questions were created. The data obtained from the interviews with the teachers were analyzed and interpreted by using descriptive analysis and content analysis approaches. In the findings obtained from the opinions of the participants, regarding the unethical behavior of teachers towards students; It has been concluded that teachers engage in discourse behaviors that do not suit the teaching profession in their relations with students, enter into interest relations with students, they impose their personal thoughts and ideological approaches on them, and they act unfairly by discriminating.they are busy with things outside the purpose of the lesson, violate student privacy by not respecting the private life of the student, and exhibit inconsistent behavior towards students. Regarding the reasons for unethical behavior; The individual reasons arising from the teachers themselves, the problems encountered in relations with the environment, the lack of supervision, the factors that reduce the motivation of the teachers and other factors were determined. Regarding the prevention of unethical behaviors, teachers; They expressed their views on providing both pre-service and post-service teacher training and development, solving problems arising from administrations, eliminating economic concerns, solving issues related to interaction with the environment and developing values.In line with the findings and results obtained, suggestions were made to practitioners and researchers for the adoption and settlement of ethical values in schools.
