Investigation of the relationship between preschool children's 21st century skills, their social emotional well-being and psychological resilience

In this study, the aim was to examine the relationship between the 21st-century skills of preschool children and their Social-Emotional Well-being and Psychological Resilience. The study group consisted of 373 children aged 5-6 attending kindergartens and preschools in the Fatih and Başakşehir districts of Istanbul. "Personal Information Form," "21st Century Skills Scale for 5–6-Year-Old Children (DAY-2)," and "Social-Emotional Well-being and Psychological Resilience Scale (PERİK)" were used to collect data in the study. The scales were filled out by preschool teachers on behalf of preschool children. The data obtained were analyzed using Independent Group t-test and One-Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) in the SPSS package program, depending on the number of categories of independent variables. The relationships between variables were examined through Pearson Correlation analysis. As a result of the research, it was observed that there was a statistically significant difference between the age of children, the age of mothers and fathers, and the 21st-century skills scale. It was also found that there was a statistically significant difference between the age of children, the number of siblings including themselves, the age of mothers and fathers, and the Social-Emotional Well-being and Psychological Resilience Scale (PERİK). In the study, it was determined that there is a positively significant relationship between the 21st-century skills scale and Social-Emotional Well-being and Psychological Resilience (PERİK). A positive significant relationship was found between the sub-dimensions of the 21st Century Skills Scale, including Learning and Innovation, Life and Career, Knowledge, Media and Technology skills, and the sub-dimensions of the Social-Emotional Well-being and Psychological Resilience Scale (PERİK), including Social Relationship Building/Social Performance, Self-Control/Self-Regulation, Self-Confidence/Assertiveness, Coping with Stress/Emotional Stability, Responsibility Awareness/Task Orientation, and Enjoyment of Exploration/Exploration.
