Pre-school teachers' teacher competences and in-service training needs

Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is to determine the administrators' opinions related to how affect the changeables of teachers' teacher competences who are charged in pre-school education and in parallel with this, administrators who work in these schools with in-service training needs, the teachers' competences with opinions which are related to in-service training needs, professional seniority, age ,the department they graduated from, educational background, the type of school in which they are in charge of status and having a child/not having a child. The sample-working group of the study consist of 62 pre-school teachers who work in 20 schools in Düzce, central district, which have been selected from among the state kindergardens /private independent kindergardens, primary schools and the girls'vocational schools' kindergardens with the method of proportional mass exemplification. In accordance with the aims of the study, as data collection tools, "The questionnaire of the ministry of national education (MEB) pre-school teacher private field competences", "Pre-school tecaher private field competences and the interview form of in-service training needs" have been used. In accordance with the aims of study, in the analysis of questionnaire data, descriptive statistics like frequency and percentage have been included. Descriptive analysis has been used in the analysis of data in the consequnce of interview in the study. At the end of the study, it has been resulted that according to the ministry of national education (MEB) private field competences, pre-school teachers have found themselves less sufficient in the definition professional developments, colloboration with society in turning of schools into the culture and instruction centre, in parenting education and in the fields of education programs than the other fields and they have needed to be supported with in-service training in these fields. But it has been resulted that according to the ministry of national education (MEB) private field competences, administrators have thought that pre-school teachers are the least sufficient in the development fields,communication with parents,parent engagement and in the fields providing of professional development with parent education fields and communication fields and they have thought that pre-school teachers should be supported with in-service training in these fields. According to administrators, it has been seen that in general meaning, pre-school teachers want to take in-service training and subjects mostly should be about communication, drama, classroom management and child development. Accordindg to administrators, professional seniority and age leave a positive impression to teacher competence and child development graduate and pre-school education graduate more sufficient than other fields graduate. According to administrators, being post graduate, working in kindergarden and having a child have positive impression to teacher competences.
