Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between positive and negative perfectionism and perceived parenting style and to identify how positive and negative perfectionism differ in terms of parenting style (democratic, permissive, permissive/neglected and authoritarian parental attitudes) in pre-adolescents.The sample of the study consisted of 362 girls, 364 boys, totally 726 pre-adolescents from eight different elementary schools in Çukurova, Sarıçam, Seyhan and Yüreğir districts of Adana and convenient sampling that isn?t a probability based sampling technique was used. For identifying the positive and negative perfectionism levels of the participants `Positive and Negative Perfectionism Scale? was used and for identifying perceived parenting style `Parenting Style Scale? was used in the study. The data collected during the research was analyzed through the SPSS 11.5 package program. Firstly, qualitative statistics were counted for identifying the personal information and related characteristics of the participants. In the second step, variance analysis was used for understanding if there is a significant difference in positive and negative perfectionism levels of the pre-adolescents in terms of parenting style, gender, education level of the parents and the school type. When investigating whether there is a difference in positive and negative perfectionism levels of the preadolescents in terms of parenting style, gender, education level of the parents and the school type that pre-adolescents attend, it was found that positive perfectionism level differs in terms of parenting style and this difference is in favor of democratic parenting style and against the neglected parenting style. On the other hand, it was found that there is a significant difference in terms of the education level of the parents and this difference is in favor of illiterate parents and the parents graduated from elementary schools. In terms of the school type that pre-adolescents attend it was found that the difference is in favor of the pre-adolescents in state schools. However, it was observed that there is no significant difference in positive and negative perfectionism levels in terms of gender variable. When investigating whether there is a difference in positive and negative perfectionism levels of the preadolescents in terms of parenting style, gender, education level of the parents and the school type that pre-adolescents attend, it was found that there is a significant difference in terms of gender and this difference is in favor of girls. However, it was found that there is no significant difference in positive and negative perfectionism levels in terms of perceived parenting style, school type that they attend and the education level of the parents. On the other hand, the joint effect of gender, education level of the parents and the school type that pre-adolescents attend does not form a significant difference in positive and negative perfectionism levels of the pre-adolescents.Keywords: Positive Perfectionism, Negative Perfectionism, Parenting Style, Pre-adolescent
