Synthesis of MgO nano-particles from organomagnesium single-source precursor compounds and analysis of their thermogravimetric properties

Abstract (EN)

In the studies aiding to the Master Thesis, in order to synthesize high surface area MgO nanoparticles, our group first synthesized and characterized single source organometallic magnesium precursor compounds [RMgOR']4 (R=Me, R'=iPr, tBuCyHex) in the cubic structure. These compounds, which dissolve easily in common organic solvents, can either be worked directly as films without the need for any other additives, or they can be easily converted into nanoparticles by thermal treatments. Single-source precursor metal alkoxides, which consist of weak metal-oxygen and metal-carbon bonds, provide significant energy savings as they are converted to corresponding metal oxides at low temperatures. However, by changing the organic ligands in their structures, MgO materials with the desired properties, can be synthesized easily by controlling the particle size and pore structure. In order to determine in details the thermogravimetric properties of the obtained [RMgOR']4 (R=Me, R'=iPr, tBu, CyHex) precursor compounds as they produce MgO, nonisothermal kinetic modelless methods such as, KAS, FWO and Starink's isoconversional methods, have been used to analyze the process and the results obtained are discussed here in detail.
