Space in Orhan Hançerlioğlu's fictional texts

Abstract (EN)

Orhan Hançerlioğlu is a social realist novelist of the 1950s, as well as a writer of poetry, stories, literary studies, philosophical works and dictionaries. The author, with his impressions from various regions of Anatolia and the daily life of Istanbul, in his eight novels; It touches on various problems of villagers and urban people. In our study, the subject of space in Orhan Hançerlioğlu's fictional texts and the aspects from which he deals with space are evaluated. The reason for considering this subject is that there has not been a detailed study on space in Orhan Hançerlioğlu's fictional texts before. Hançerlioğlu created his works with the influence of his philosophical thinking, inspired by the places he lived and the places he went on duty. In our study, the places we analyzed in Orhan Hançerlioğlu's novels were classified and used in our study by making sense of them in line with theoretical sources. In this context, the life of Orhan Hançerlioğlu, his literary life and works are included in the section titled "An Overview of Orhan Hançerlioğlu's Life and Works" in the "INTRODUCTION" section of the study. Then, in the section "A View of Space", the concept of space was explained, the relationship of space with the concept of chronotope was examined, and evaluations were made about the function of space. In the section of the study titled "THE BIG CITY IN ORHAN HANÇERLİOĞLU'S NOVELS", eight different novels of the author were analyzed within themselves and it was determined that six of his works titled Büyük Balıklar, Oyun, Ali, Kutu Kutu İçinde, Yedinci Gün and Bordamıza Vuran Deniz were set in the big city, namely Istanbul. Place evaluations were made in each of these works. These evaluated places were categorized within themselves and it was examined which function they have for the heroes in the texts. From the perceptions of the heroes, the events in which the places are scenes and their relations with the heroes were evaluated. In the section of the study titled "ANATOLIA IN ORHAN HANÇERLİOĞLU'S ROMANS", eight different novels of the author were analyzed within themselves, and it was determined that two of his works, Karanlık Dünya and Ekilmemiş Topraklar, were set in various parts of Anatolia. In these works, the problems of Anatolian people and the static structure of Anatolia are explained in relation to the concept of chronotope. The characteristics and functions of the places were discussed and examples on this subject were identified and analyzed. In the concluding part of the study, which places are included in Orhan Hançerlioğlu's works, the functions of these places, the structure of the places according to the spiritual perceptions of the characters, the evaluation of whether the works are set in Anatolia or in the big city, and the functions of the places in the works are discussed and the evaluations made throughout the whole study are put forward as a general review and the study is concluded.
