Learning about combating addiction with an effective learning based lesson plan in 12th grades of secondary education

Youth is a developmental period between childhood and adulthood. Individuals may encounter some risks during this period. One of the risky behaviors of this period in which curious experiences are tried to be experienced is addictions. Today, with addiction, which is described as a global problem, not only in urban centers; small settlements should also be fought. Therefore, in this research, students who continue their education in Yapraklı district of Çankırı province were studied. The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of the active learning-based lesson plan approach on learning the subject of combating addiction in the 12th grade guidance course in secondary education. In the study, one-group pretest-posttest experimental design, which is one of the quantitative research methods, was used. The measurement tool developed by the researcher was determined as the dependent variable. The study group consists of 6 students studying in the 12th grade of Yapraklı Multi-Program Anatolian High School. Initially, students were asked to answer the measurement tool consisting of 20 questions. Then, the lesson plan enriched with educational games and activities was implemented. Finally, the measurement tool, which was used as a pretest before, was applied as a posttest. The pretest-posttest responses of the students were examined using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test and the Man-Whitney U-Test in the SPSS 25.0 package program. According to the findings, although female students' awareness levels of fighting addiction are higher than male students, the difference between them is not statistically significant. In addition, a statistically significant difference was found between the pretest and posttest results of the study group in favor of the posttest scores. It is thought that the lesson plan developed for this study will be used in the lessons by the teachers working in the educational institutions in Yapraklı district.
