Study of secondary school teachers? opinions regarding the relationship between principals? insructional leadership and their decision making abilities

The purpose of this study is to reveal the relationship between principals? decision making abilities and instructional leadership in teachers? point of view.In the study, Instructional Leadership Scale, developed by Mehmet Şişman was used and five sub-categories and the 132 teacher all stated that their principals mostly exhibit instructional leadership behaviors. No significant difference was found between these five sub-categories and independent variables like age, sex, department and seniority. More over a significant difference was found between all sub-categories and independent variables like school type in favor of secondary school and vocational high school .Another variable of the study is decision making skills which has vital importance in management procedures. To measure the principals? decision making abilities a scale, developed by Ömür Acet was used and four sub-categories were identified. Then the data collected was processed for these sub-categories. 132 sampled teachers partly stated that their principals? have the capacity in decision making procedures. No significant relationship was found between variables like sex, age, department and seniority. More over a significant difference for Anatolia High Scholl was found between decision making abilities and independent variables like school type in favor of secondary school and vocational high school.The main objective of the study is to identify principals? decision-making abilities and the degree of instructional leadership, with regard to the teachers? opinions and statistically significant relationship was detected for all sub categories. That is to say, for all sub categories, it is concluded that the higher the level of instructional leadership, the better abilities the principals have to make decisions.
