Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between high school students' attitudes towards gender-based career choice and self-construal dimensions. The sample of the study was determined as individuals between the ages of 14-18 who continue their education in secondary education institutions in the Ereğli district of Zonguldak province in the 2021-2022 academic year. Data of 630 individuals, 426 (68%) girls and 204 (32%) boys, were used. In the research, "Autonomous-Relational Self Scales in Family" developed by Kağıtçıbaşı (2007) were used to measure self-construals. The original scale developed for university students consists of 22 items and three dimensions: autonomous self in the family, relational self in the family, and autonomous-relational self in the family. In order to measure the gender-based career choices of the students, the Gender-Based Vocational Choice Attitude Scale Female Form (Haskan Avcı et al., 2019) and the Gender-Based Vocational Choice Attitude Scale Male Form (Haskan Avcı et al., 2019) were used. Data analysis was performed using IBM SPSS 25.0 (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences version 25). Pearson Product Correlation Coefficient and Standard Multiple Linear Regression Analysis techniques were used in the analyses. As a result of the analyzes made, it was seen that there was a negative and low-level significant relationship between the autonomous self-construal sub-dimension scores of female and male high school students and their gender-based career choice attitude scores. It was also observed that the autonomous self-construal sub-dimension scores of female and male high school students significantly predicted their gender-based career choice attitude scores. Keywords: Gender, relational self, autonomous self
