Middle school students' perception of disaster awareness

The aim of the study is to determine the level of disaster awareness perception of secondary school students. This research was carried out in the screening model using the quantitative research method. The sample of the research consists of a total of 647 students studying in three secondary schools in Elazig in the 2020-2021 academic year. Random sampling method was used in the selection of the sample. The "Disaster Awareness Perception Scale" consisting of 36 items and 4 sub-dimensions developed by (Dikmenli, Yakar, & Konca, 2018) was used to collect the data needed to achieve the purpose of the research. Percentage, frequency, mean and standard deviation values were used to describe the data collected for the study. T-test was used for within-group comparison analysis and one-way analysis of variance was used for multiple within-group analysis. As a result of the study, it was found that the earthquake awareness perceptions of the participating students were high, the earthquake awareness perceptions of the students who had experienced earthquakes were higher, the perception in question increased as the class and age got older, and the disaster awareness perceptions of female students were higher than male students.
