Attitudes of secondary school administrators on physical education and sports course (Rize provincial example)

The aim of this study is to examine the "Attitudes of Middle School Administrators Towards Physical Education and Sport Course" according to some demographic variables. The universe of the research consists of 171 school administrators working in 78 state middle schools affiliated to the Ministry of National Education, Rize Province National Education Directorate. The sample consists of a total of 116 school administrators, 64 school principals and 52 vice principals working in state middle schools affiliated to the Directorate of National Education in the center and districts of Rize in the 2019-2020 academic year, which was determined by random sampling method. In the study, the 9-item "Personal Information Form" prepared by the researcher by taking the expert opinion for the purpose of the research, and the "Physical Education Attitude Scale for School Administrators" developed by Tutal (2014) were applied to the participants. Windows SPSS 26.0 licensed statistics program was used for statistical tests. Descriptive statistics, frequency and percentage distributions were made to determine the general characteristics of the data. The skewness and kurtosis coefficients of the total score were also examined as statistical tests. It was found that the skewness and kurtosis coefficients did not change between +2 and -2. In addition, as a result of Kolmogorov Smirnov and Shapiro-Wilk tests performed for each demographic variable, it was determined that the data did not show a normal distribution. Mann-Whitney-U test was used for paired comparisons and Kruskal Wallis H test was used for group comparisons of 3 or more groups. In case of significant differences in the Kruskal Wallis-H test, the differences were determined by paired comparisons with the Mann Whitney-U test. According to the findings obtained as a result of the analysis made in the research; statistically significant differences were found between the attitudes of middle school administrators towards physical education and sports lessons according to the variables of "last graduated school", "marital status", "licensed doing sports". However, no statistically significant difference was found between the attitudes of school administrators towards physical education and sports lessons according to the variables of "gender", "age", "working time in the profession", "total duration of management", "job description", "where the school is located", which are among our other demographic variables. Lastly, the average of middle school administrators' general attitudes towards physical education and sports lessons were found to be "very positive".
