Abstract (EN)

As a result of the various activities we have carried out with Russia, which has been our border neighbor throughout history, the awareness of the Turkish language has increased among Russians. Thus, Turkish language teaching activities for Russians in Russia have also increased. The increase in these activities has led to the emergence of various teaching materials. Osip Ivanovich Senkovskiy is the person who took the first steps to create a teaching material for teaching Turkish to Russians. This study aims to evaluate the "Pocket Book for Russian Soldiers Who Went To The on Turkish War" prepared by Osip Ivanovich Senkovskiy, one of the pioneers of 19th century Russian Turkology, from various perspectives. This work, which was prepared during the Ottoman-Russian wars, was designed as a practical language learning guide to enable Russian soldiers to communicate in the Ottoman geography. The study analyzes the Turkish teaching methods used in the work, the presentation of grammatical rules and vocabulary. In addition, the explanation of grammatical structures, the quality of sample sentences and the practical solutions offered to language learners are discussed in detail. In addition, the order of grammar topics in the analyzed work, the methods and approaches used in grammar teaching, whether the four basic skills are used as a tool in grammar teaching, the content and formal characteristics of the dictionary and daily speech texts sections of the work, and the extent to which the work represents the period and field of Turkish were tried to be determined. Document analysis, one of the qualitative research techniques, was used in this research. While the thesis reveals the pedagogical features of the work, it also emphasizes some of its shortcomings. In particular, aspects such as the lack of in-depth coverage of grammar rules and the lack of a systematic presentation suitable for different levels of learners were critically evaluated. Nevertheless, it was determined that the work was an important resource in Turkish language teaching for that period and that it practicalized the language learning process according to the needs of the soldiers. As a result of the research, it was concluded that Senkovskiy is a remarkable figure in the teaching of Turkish in Russia and the analyzed work has an important place in the history of Turkish language teaching in Russia.
