The institution of Qadi in the Ottoman law system

Throughout the centuries, Ottoman Empire has struggled to provide the necessary mechanisms for the steady progress of the its' administrative system ruled by the great lands of Asia, Europe and Africa. It survived for as long as six hundred years. One of the elements that allows it to survive for such a long time is the legal system. In this study, "Qadi Institution in the Ottoman Law System "was examined. However, the Tanzimat Period (1839-1876) and later were excluded from this study. In this study, the Institution of Qadi, the sources of information, the judicial, administrative and municipal duties, educational backgrounds, dates, positions, appointments, duty terms, assistants, titles and positions, places in protocol and ceremonies, promotion systems, audit and their dismissal, corruption in the organization of women and reform studies were discussed. In this study, descriptive analysis method is used. It can be said that academic study about institution of the qadi In the Ottoman Law System is scarcely any. It is thought that the information gained with this study will contribute to the works carried out in today's Turkish law system.
