Abstract (EN)

This study was carried out in order to determine the position of the women in the society during the ottoman empire by taking the form of women's items in the dictionaries such as the names used for women, names of women' s clothes, goods and ornaments. In this study, Kamus-ı Türkî, Lügat-i Nâcî, Müntehabât-ı Lügât-ı Osmâniyye and Lehçe-i Osmânî dictionaries written in the mentioned period were scanned according to the vocabulary, obtained the vocabulary is classified according to the subjects. The theoretical framework of the vocabulary was drawn at the entrance of the study, and the relationship between vocabulary and dictionary was emphasized. The dictionaries examined in the Ottoman Empire period were introduced. In the first chapter, the general information about the status of women in social life and their status in the political and educational life of the women in the society were taken from the pre-Islamic Turkish Epics, Dede Korkut Stories, Selcuk and Ottoman Empire periods. In the second chapter, the historical works of Turkish was scanned and the general vocabulary used for women has been tried to be determined. From this point of view, in the Ottoman Empire period which was the source of the thesis, the vocabulary about the woman in the dictionaries of Kamus-ı Türkî, Lügat-i Nâcî, Müntehabât-ı Lügat-ı Osmâniyye and in Lehçe-i Osmânî were classified according to the topics. In this section, the data obtained according to each topic are shown with tables, and the status of the vocabulary in the four dictionaries examined is compared. Bu karşılaştırma ile sözlüklerin bir konudaki farklılıkları ve benzerlikleri ortaya konmuştur. The studies on the women were examined while the topics were identified and the appropriate topics were formed. While creating the titles, positive or negative names about the woman, kinship names, titles given according to the social status of women, clothes and ornaments, women's the disease, pregnancy and organ naming, wide classification has been made such as a female occupations. In the conclusion part of this study, the vocabulary about the woman identified in the dictionaries scanned was given with a general evaluation. The similarities and differences between the dictionaries about vocabulary of women have been revealed. It is thought that the value of the study given to the woman in Turkish culture can reveal the value of the woman in the society and be a source for other studies.
