The relation of burnout level of the educators working in special education with emphatic tendencies and some variances

The aim of this study is to monitor the burnout level of the educators who are working in special education schools bound to national ministry of education and educators who are working in special education and rehabilitation centers bound to national ministry of education, in 2009-1010 academic year in Gaziantep and its districts from the point of emphatic tendency and some variances. In the study carried with descriptive method, survey model is used. 259 educators working in 6 formal special education schools bound to national ministry of education and in 42 special education and rehabilitation centers which are in Gaziantep Province and its districts; in 2009-2010 academic year consist the sample of the study. In order to determine the knowledge of the educators taking part in the survey, ?Personal Information Form? prepared by the surveyor; to determine the burnout level ?Maslach Burnout Inventory? prepared by Maslach and Jackson (1981) and adapted into Turkish by Ergin(1992), and to determine the emphatic tendency level ?Emphatic Tendency Scale? prepared by Dökmen(1988) were used. I made use of SPSS 16.00 program in the analysis of the gathered data. In order to determine the emphatic tendency and the burnout level of the educators Pearson Moment correlation coefficient was used. To analyze the emphatic tendency and some variances, Two Way ANOVA and to determine the group by which the difference causes Tukey HSD test were used. The results of the study show that the relation between emphatic tendency and burnout is meaningful. Basic impact of gender and education level variances and emphatic tendency creates meaningful difference on burnout with the association with gender, marital status, period of office in turn. Results of the study are discussed and interpreted from the aspect of data gathered from similar previous studies. Suggestions based on research findings were developed.
