Abstract (EN)
Today, the focus of nursery is providing high quality and cost-effective service rather than carrying out a series of nursery functions. This focus requires nurses to maintain an effective leadership. The roles and structures of nurse managers within the big and complicated health system is changing and therefore, they are expected to be strong leaders. Departing from the idea that leadership behaviours of nurse managers may have an effect on motivations of nurses, this study aimed to determine the effects of leadership behaviours of nurse managers on motivations of nurses in private hospitals. Another purpose of the research is to study the relations between demographic characteristics of nurses and their perception of the leadership behaviours of nurse managers and their levels of motivation.Accordingly, a survey was made among 50 nurses who are employed in İstanbul Bayındır Hospital, between 1 and 10 of May, 2010. The data acquired from the survey was analyzed on a computer in SPSS (Statistical Package For Social Sciences) For Windows 17.0. Alpha Coefficient (Cronbach's alpha) was used to test the credibility of the survey. Frequency and percentage statistics were used to determine the demographic characteristics of the subject group; minimum, maximum, standard deviation mean statistics were used to determine the perception of employees concerning their nurse managers leadership behaviours and the level of their motivation; Mann Whitney U test and Kruskal Wallis test was employed to compare the relationships between the perception of employees concerning their nurse managers leadership behaviours and the level of their motivation and their demographic characteristics. Spearman Correlation analysis was used to determine the relationship between parameters. The research results indicated that leadership behaviours of nurse managers has a statistically significant (p<0,05) influence on motivation satisfaction levels of employees and does not effect how much they value motivation. Keywords: Manager, Leadership, Nurse manager, Motivation
