Abstract (EN)
This study was carried out in the years 2016-2017, to examine the genetic structure in terms of the yield and fiber technological properties of the population composed of 8 genotypes (ADN-712, BA-440, BİR-949, Carisma, DP-332, Carla, Gloria and ST-498), belong to G. hirsutum L. with superior yield and environmental adaptation characteristics and 4 genotypes (Bahar-14, Bahar-82, Giza-45 and Giza-75) belong to G. barbadense L. species, according to the line-tester analysis method, to determine the suitable parents and hybrid combinations. Non-additive gene effects were found to be effective in the management of boll number, cotton seed yield, ginning percentage, fiber yield, 100 seed weight, short fiber ratio, fiber uniformity and fiber elongation properties whereas additive gene effects in the management of seed cotton weight per boll, fiber length, fiber fineness and fiber strength. The ADN-712, BA-440, Carisma and Bahar-82 in the boll number; BİR-949, Carisma and Gloria in the seed cotton weight per boll; ADN-712, BİR-949, Carisma, ST-498 and Giza-75 in the cotton seed yield; ADN-712, BA-440, DP-332, ST-498, Bahar-82 and Giza-75 in the ginning percentage; ADN-712, BA-440, BİR-949, Carisma, ST-498, Bahar-82, Giza-75 in the fiber yield; BİR-949, Carla, Gloria, and Giza-45 in the 100 seed weight; BİR-949, Carla, Gloria, ST-498 and Giza-45 in the fiber length; ADN-712, ST-498, Giza-45 and Giza-75 in the fiber fineness (for coarse fiber production); BİR-949, Gloria, Bahar-14 and Bahar-82 in the fiber fineness; BİR-949, Gloria and ST-498 in the fiber strength; ADN-712, BİR-949, Carisma, DP-332, Giza-45 and Giza-75 in the short fiber ratio; DP-332 and ST-498 in fiber uniformity; BİR-949, Carla and Gloria in the fiber elongation were found to have superior and can be used as suitable parents in future cotton breeding studies. Promising hybrid combinations were obtained in terms of the tested properties in this study.
