Abstract (EN)
Most buildings in humid hot regions require a huge energy consumption due to using air conditioning devices and result in waste in energy .Consequently , this research aims to study passive cooling strategies in hot humid regions in the Emirates to achieve thermal comfort and reduce energy demand . To conduct the study, a broad and intensive literature review was initially conducted on passive cooling strategies, especially in hot humid regions. All traditional passive cooling strategies in hot humid regions were studied, and all modern innovations to improve the performance of passive cooling strategies were mentioned. After conducting the extensive literature review, a questionnaire targeting the population was conducted to evaluate the thermal comfort in residential buildings in Abu Dhabi. A field study was also conducted that included 30 buildings to verify the extent of the application of passive cooling strategies that were identified based on the literature review that was conducted. After noting the shortcomings in the application of passive cooling strategies in hot humid regions, a residential villa was selected as a case study and temperature readings were taken inside and outside the building to verify the ineffectiveness of the current applied strategies. Based on the temperature measurements inside and outside the building that were recorded using a thermometer and the extensive literature review of passive cooling strategies, traditional passive cooling strategies were proposed and the suggestion design strategies were carried out using AutoCAD 3d Max and Lumion Software to enhance thermal comfort indoor the building .In addition , This study could establish guidelines using comprehensive literature review conducted and these guidelines comprise passive cooling strategies in humid hot region in terms of natural ventilation types, roofs, walls and courtyards facades, insulation and building materials. Moreover, this study introduces recent innovated strategies of passive cooling design in humid hot regions.
