Abstract (EN)

The purpose of this study is to analyze the possible mediator effect of mindfulness on the relationship between perceived stress level and quality of life in pediatric asthma. The total sample of this study is 100 asthmatic children aged between 9-12 years. In order to assess the participants' levels of perceived stress, mindfulness and quality of life; the Perceived Stress Scale in Children (8-11 years), Child and Adolescent Mindfulness Measure and Pediatric Asthma Quality of Life Questionnare are used. In order to examine asthma control levels, Childhood Asthma Control Test for children aged between 4-11 years and Asthma Control Test for children aged ≥12 years are used, and physicians also determine the asthma control levels of children by using international criteria developed by Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA). Linear hierarchical regression analysis was used in the analysis of the main hypotheses of the research. As a result of the analysis of the core hypotheses, it has been identified that mindfulness has a partial mediator role, in the relationship between perceived stress and quality of life (p=-,474), in the relationship between perceived stress and symptoms which is the subscale of quality of life (p=-,399) and in the relationship between perceived stress and emotional function (p=-,514) which is the quality of life's subscale. The mediating role of mindfulness in the relationship between perceived stress and activity limitations could not been inspected due to the lack of a significant correlation between activity limitations which is subscale of quality of life and mindfulness (p=,136).
