Abstract (EN)
Safflower (Carthamus tinctorius L.) is a valuable oilseed crop. The present study was carried out to determine performance of selections based on pedigree (PSM) and single seed descent (SSM) selection methods from "Dinçer 5-18-1 × Montola 2000" populations. A total of 30 lines (15 PSM and 15 SSD lines) along with the parents were selected and grown in 2016 and 2017 according to randomized block design with 3 replications. Results of variance analysis revealed that there was no significant differences for plant height, number of branches, number of heads, number of seeds, 1000-seed weight, hull percent, harvest index, oil yield and oil percent between the lines advanced through single seed descent and pedigree method. Genotype × environment interactions was not significant for plant height, number of branches and seed yield in pedigree selection method, and only plant height was not significant in single seed descent method. Five lines (PSM-23, PSM-159, PSM-196, PSM-208 and PSM-225) were found to be better performing for seed and oil yield than the parents. Lines developed through pedigree selection method was linoleic types (60.97-80.61%), but two lines (SSD-13 78.84% and SSD-50 64.92%) developed through single seed descent method had high oleic acid content. Results showed that both pedigree and single seed descent could be used in safflower cultivar development.
