The city and the sacred in the light of postmodern theories: An phenomenological aproach

Cities especially linked with the term sacredness hold several meanings. Every religious group has analysed the concepts city and sacred in their own perspective and evaluated them in their own way. As a matter of fact, the city memory made a significant contribution to the evaluation in question. Cities exist with their memory. The philosophers and the scholars of religion have also assigned places especially 'sacred places' a specific meaning according to their distinct theories. In this paper named "The City and The Sacred in the Light of Postmodern Theories: An Phenomenological Aproach" we have approached the relating terms according to their transformation in time and their enriching meanings. Subsequently we touched upon the postmodern theories of Johan Huizinga, Michel Foucault, Jacques Derrida, William Paden, Stewart Guthrie and Peter Rutherford McKenzie, who deal with the city in question, in other words space and the sacred, with different perspectives including urbanism, city memory and the attitude of the citizen towards the sacred.
