The relationship between religiousness and altruism within the positive psychology at university students (Sample of İnonu University)

The goal of this research is to detect the relationship between religiousness and altruism levels of university students within the positive psychology. For this reason; inside our research, correlational survey model type has been used which is a sub-step of survey type researches which take place inside of empirical researches. Totally 424 people impending 222 women (%52,4) and 202 men (%47,6), who has been studying at Inonu University in academic year of 2018-2019 from five different departments (Faculty of education, faculty of literature, communication, theology, fine arts and designing), who has been selected by random sampling method, participated the research. In order to determine the levels of the religiousness of the students who have participated the research, "Religious Life Scale" has been used. The Cronbach Alpha reliability coefficient of the scale has been determined as 0,79. In order to define the level of altruism of the students who has participated to our research, "Altruism Scale" has been used and Cronbach Alpha reliability coefficient of the scale has been determined as 0,93. In order to determine the demographic features of the participants, personal information form has been applied. For the research, the necessary permission is obtained from the related faculties and preliminary information has been given to the students and the necessary conscientiousness has been shown in order to fill in questionnaires in objective and neutral way. Research data has been examined by using the SPSS 21.0 packaged software. A normality test has been carried out for the analyses that will be applied, with the providing of the normality it has been decided to carried out parametrical tests. As a result of our research, it is obtained a medium-level and meaningful relationship between the religiousness and altruism (r=,382, p,01). The religiousness scores of the women has been higher than men, a difference in a meaningful level has been obtained (t=2,24 p,05). Despite of women's altruism levels are higher than that of men's, it is not reached a difference in meaningful level (t=,834, p,05). The average religiousness (¯X=1,84) and altruism (¯X=4,19) scores of the students' of theology faculty are higher than that of other faculty students'. It has been obtained meaningful differences between the variability of faculties and altruism. (F(4-419)=2,545, p=,039). In the Post Hoc test that has been applied, it is reached difference in meaningful level between the faculty of education and faculty of theology (p,05). It has been obtained differences in meaningful level between variability of faculty and religiousness (F(4-419)=6,765, p=,000). In the Pos Hoc test that has been applied, it is obtained differences in meaningful level among the theology faculty (p=,000), faculty of letters (p=,017) and faculty of education (p=,013) with fine arts and designing faculty.
