Abstract (EN)
The study sample consisted of 208 patients who were 18 years or older, were diagnosed with chronic kidney failure, who did not receive hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis, and agreed to voluntarily participate in the study. Data were collected via face-to-face interviews using the 'Patient Information Form', 'Beck Hopelessness Scale', and 'Beck Depression Inventory'. Data were evaluated using means, standard deviations, median, frequencies, rates, student t test, one-way ANOVA, Kruskal Wallis test, Pearson chi-square test, Mann Whitney U test, Pearson correlation, and Spearman's correlation test. Findings were interpreted according to 95% confidence intervals and p<0.05 level of statistical significance. Mean age of the patients was 64,29±12,03. It was found that 52,9% of the patients were male. Among the predialysis patients, 39,9% were chronic kidney patients for 2-5 years, 36,5% were phase 3 kidney failure patients, and 80,8% had no knowledge about kidney transplantation. Mean Beck Depression Inventory score of the predialysis patients was 17,67±11,53 and 67,8% of the patients had depression. Mean Beck Hopelessness Scale score was 9,55±3,56 and it was determined that the patients had moderate levels of hopelessness. Depression and hopelessness scores of the patients were positively, significantly, and moderately correlated (r:0,389, p:0,001). It was found that older age, being female, and status of being concerned with the disease affected depression in predialysis patients; while hopelessness was affected by older age, being single, and low levels of education (p<0,05). It was determined that patients who thought positively about kidney transplant had lower hopelessness and depression scores.
