Abstract (EN)

Preeclampsia is a hypertensive, multisystem disorder of pregnant women that affects approximately 2?8 % of all pregnancies and has been a major cause of maternal and neonatal mortality and morbidity. The development of the placenta and its abnormalities have been associated with the pathogenesis of preeclampsia.Classical studies on placental histochemistry revealed linear iron deposits in the placenta of normal first half gestation. These studies described normal 3th trimester placentas lacking this type of deposits.Over 36 weeks thirhty term placentas, twenty from pre-eclamptic and ten from normal pregnancies were examined in this study. All patients blood samples were evaluated for maternal serum transferrine, ferritin, serum iron and totaly iron binding capasity levels. Placental sections were stained histochemically and immunohistochemically and evaluated in light microscopy. Our aim in this study is to evaluate the iron accumulation in term placentas of preeclamptic patients and to compare obtained data with term placentas of normal pregnancies. 30 term placental samples of preeclamptic and normotensive pregnancies will examine by Hematoxilin-Eosin, Masson?s Trichrome, Prussian Blue stains and immunohistochemistry with immunoperoxıdase method for demonstrate ferritin accumulatin in light microscope. For analyzing data SPSS software was used and Mann Whitney U test in patients were calculated. For statistical significance P-value <0.05 were considered. This study evaluated in preeclampsia events; placental iron accumulation and maternal serum transferrine, ferritin, serum iron and totaly iron binding capasity levels will be a useful tecniques for ante-natal appreciate of fetal healhty. Keywords: Pre-eclampsia, Placenta, Iron accumulation, Histology, Immunohistochemistry.
